JRE 1.6 Update 18 NOT certified for Maconomy

Changes in the newly released JRE version 1.6 Update 18 cause problems in relation to the Maconomy Java client and the Maconomy Portal when using Java applets:

 - The Maconomy Java client cannot be started from the desktop shortcut. The desktop shortcut becomes non-functional after its first use because of issues with the JRE .jar file cache.

 - The Java applets stop working after having been loaded multiple times in the Maconomy Portal in Internet Explorer browser because of issues related to changes in the shutdown of Java applets. Currently, a workaround is to use Firefox or to disable the new java plug-in. Please note that, on 64-bit Windows platforms, only the new java plug-in is available, so on these platforms this workaround is not an option.

Because of these issues, we currently recommend NOT to install the JRE 1.6 Update 18 and to use the JRE version, which have been used until now.

We aim at making workarounds for these issues in the next service packs: X+ sp 21 and X1 sp 9.

Support for Safari 4 on Mac 0S

The Safari 4 version number has been updated since the release of Maconomy X+ SP 18 and X1 SP6, which leads to showing the 'The version of your browser is not supported' message in the Maconomy Portal for these service packs.

In order the message to be removed, replace the file supportedclients.1.ms, located on the webserver in: MaconomyPortal/Framework/packages/portal/std with the attached file. Remember to make a copy of the old supportedclients.1.ms file, just in case.

For Maconomy X+ SP 19 and later service packs, as well as for Maconomy X1 SP7 and later service packs, the supportedclients.1.ms file is up-to-date from the installation

November 2009

A potential dead-lock has been identified in the portal's Single Login applet. Apparently the class loaders for the two main threads (progress bar and login thread) could compete for resources in a way that would result in situation where both class loaders would wait for a resource held by the other thread - i.e. a dead lock.

The error was first observed as a regression between X1 SP 6 and SP 7, on the default bundled JRE (1.6_07). It has been observed on 1.6_12 as well, while no problems exist on JRE 1.6_16. No significant code changes were introduced in SP 7, but apparently a refactoring of code drastically increased the probability of the threads deadlocking.

Workaround: use JRE 1.6_16.
